what-it-takesSpring Grove Fire Protection District is a combination department, staffing the station 24/7 in order to provide rapid response to any Emergency.  Typical staffing includes five cross-trained Firefighter EMS providers, with four in-station and one on-call.  Paid-on-Call (POC) response provides additional response for large incidents and back-fills the station during the first call and for General Alarms (fires, motor vehicle crashes and second calls).  Spring Grove Fire Protection District is always accepting applications for employment, though the typical hiring proess begins in January. You must be at least 18 years of age, in good health (able to meet physically complete the Essential Job Functions of a Firefighter) and be willing to become cross-trained  at the minimum level of FF-Basic/EMT-B.  Pay is commensurate with certification/licensure and time on the job.  Shifts are chosen by seniority and some individuals can progress to a PERMANENT PART TIME position (part-time, 16 shifts, benefits). While residency is limited to 50 miles, POC members must live within six miles of the station.  Those between 14 and 21 are encouraged to apply for Explorer Post 1800 (see info in Programs about the Post) as a way of learning about the Fire Service.  Many progress to hired positions.
