The Spring Grove Fire Explorer Post 1800 is a youth sponsored organization established by the Spring Grove Fire Protection District in 2008. The program provides young men and women the opportunity to experience the fire and emergency medical services using hands-on and classroom training.
Our mission is to teach, “learning for life” within an interactive, safe environment, while providing positive role models, career development and life skills that offers young men and women an opportunity to be better prepared to make ethical choices and achieve their fullest potential.
Some of our activities include a Ride-Along program and Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) Fire School. Additionally, we provide varied weekly classroom and hands on fire and emergency medical services training in the areas of forcible entry, fire extinguisher use, fire ground safety, confined space, hose and ladder drills, extrication drills, CPR and AED certification, blood borne pathogens and patient care. All of these activities are at NO expense to the Explorer.
We recognize how important community is to our program. We participate in a number of events, including the Feed My Starving Children program, Fire Prevention Week, and the Spring Grove Firefighters Association Steak Fry. Our program is open to young men and women between the ages of 15-21 from Spring Grove and neighboring McHenry County communities. We recruit prospective Explorers during the months of August and September. To learn more about our program please contact Post Advisor Bob Stevens rstevens@springgrovefire.com) .
